Ok ... when you say 'unique', what does that mean? Were they from search engines? In other words, 100 keywords brought you the traffic? ... or just 100 unique visitors from anywhere? _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

100 unique visitors from anywhere, they count only once a month in awstats, once per computer that is, u can login from the same computer 10 times, that'll just be 10 visits, but one unique visitor, if it was just hits, i'd have hundreds of thousands lol, and some were from search engines, when they search for info that are also in my forum _________________

Traffic from search engines is what really counts when you run contextual ads because visitors are actually looking for information about keywords on your website. That really converts into clicks and clicks convert into revenue. I think you need to have a couple of hundred unique visitors from search engines daily in order to make any money.
(And ad units need to be placed so that they have high visibility ...) _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

For example, you can place them between posts. Otherwise, you can't really get many clicks, and consequently, you can't really make any money. A lot of people complain that they can't make money using forums, but they need to make a choice. If they want to make money, then they need to place ads in such a way that they get visibility. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

IIRC, you used to have AdSense, but it wasn't between posts. Is it a big different to the CTR having the ads between posts?

Aaron | Well, I don't talk about CTR because I'm not supposed to, but I think that the difference is huge. Those who come visit forums read posts, so if you place ad units in the header or footer, they typically don't see ad units. Ad units need to be placed between posts in order to get any visibility. Also one ad unit should be placed right under the last post; this makes one ad unit visible to forum members who come and post. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

I heard CPM was the way to go on forums because they naturally get massive pageviews. That will be my advertising method of choice in the long term, plus some affiliate advertising and clickbank. _________________ Shooru - Pop Culture, Music and Movie Forum

If it's a tiny forum like this one, then CPM only brings 10c a day or so. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Thats true, you do need a lot of traffic, and selling CPM in the early days is a massive struggle as well. I guess its a matter of mixing it up and seeing what works best on what forum. _________________ Shooru - Pop Culture, Music and Movie Forum

I think that even with a lot of traffic, it's not an easy way to make an income. I think other types of websites can be far more lucrative.

I keep thinking that it's difficult to make money using entertain websites, but in this particular case, maybe we do want to run entertainment forums like music forum. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |
