I am thinking about starting up a contest to jump start my forum, probably afterr Chirstmas, when people have more time to spend online.
What sort of things do I have to do to ensure that I have a good contest. I am going to be buying an Ipod for the prize, or $100 via PP.
I know that I will have to market the contest to make sure that people know about it, what are the best ways to do that and how much should I look to spend?
Also it should be noted that my forum is not of the webmaster type, so that just makes it that much harder to market and get the word out.... _________________ Webmaster Blog | Free forums | Free Hit Counter |

I think you need to have some user base to begin with. Working on a group post exchange to get number of registered members is one way to do it. It would be ideal if you have some traffic coming from search engines. I'm not so sure if running a contest works well when your forum is empty; it should have some foundation. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

I ran a contest with a less expensive prize and so far it's going great. The turn out has been wonderful. I advetised the contest on craigslist which helped a lot.
But it's important to have a site you can promote and not JUST the contest. Posting IPOD contest! on craigslist all over the place is just going to get flagged. You need to make the posts relevent to the forum your posting in. |

I had a mixed feeling about this, and ... I have more doubt now. I went to visit a webmaster forum that used to offer a reward program. Well, the forum is gone. I'm sure that there were number of reasons why the owner closed down the forum, but ... the reward program apparently did not help much. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |
