Well, the same thing can be said about other boards unless you're used to using other boards.

Sure there must be option to uncheck subscribing to thread by default ... but I am sure it is hard to find since admin is terrible Wink

But it only seems to be phpBB and some vB boards that subscribe you, by default, if you don't specifically tell it not to.. at least, that seems to be my experience. At the same time, its easy to figure out how to unsubscribe with vB.

phpBB's default setup is 'email notification off', so if the admin does not change that, members won't subscribe to threads automatically. My guess is that vB's default setup is also 'email notification off'.

I'm not sure but I have had several occasions where the admin must have changed it and I had a heck of a time changing that particular setting.

That is just one example (of many) that makes phpBB not very user-friendly, IMO.

Rooted, there's something similar in VB, and even better hidden. In phpBB you can chose to uncheck, but in VB you find out the admin has put this as default after getting your inbox filled with that spam.

I love phpBB. I am one of the people who know how to use it and know what powers it can have. I pride with some excellent phpBBs and I am not thinking about switching to any other script too soon. I am a theme modder and phpBB is the only one that offers me the FREEDOM I need. I have 4 phpBBs and 2 of them are so modded that I fear the theme creator himself wouldn't recognize the theme.

As for the features. I don't like forums with too many installed by defaulf. My communities are different, so are my members needs and knowledge. I was able to offer each of my communities the features my memebers would use ...

I am not posting links here yet, but should you wish to see how phpBB can look, I will surely give some examples Smile

Excellent script !!!

Very simple to use when you are a beginner. Offers the basic features needed in a script and it's free. For those who know something more, it's got some great develpment possibilities. I have spent thousands of hours learning to mod the theme and script and I can tell you from the "specialist" point of view that it;s the best script I have worked with.

I was able to learn a lot about forum management and the theme modding is the best ever. I also run IPB and VB forums, so no one can accuse me of not knowing what I am talkign about.

Even if the script is that simple I think it's not for the beginner admins. It's for those who know how to change a code or a theme. Not for those who are not even able to change the logo. For those there's VB. Very Happy

As I said .. I find it good because I was able to make it look very good and also was able to have ALL the features other scripts have and even more. The support is great and you don't have to pay yearly to be able to have access to updates as in VB's style.

I own 6 phpBBs right now and I still don't consider a paid script (the VB script i have is for my webmaster forum, to shut some of the snobbish mouths claming my forums are not professional withut VB Evil or Very Mad ). But that;s all. I consider the price to be high and the yearly payment to be able to access updates a ripp off
