All I know if their edit profile option, kind of confusing.
The layout is OK, but not very great.

Some say it's intuitive because it's categorized. Others say it's confusing because it's categorized. Plus most boards use vB and phpBB, so it can get confusing if the board is using software other than these two.

I suspect that it is a matter of time before there will be more SMF forums than phpBB. Especially if phpBB boards continue to get hacked the way they have been, lately. |

SMF users often make such comment, but it'll be a long time before the number of SMF installations outnumber phpBB installations simply because there are an enormous number of phpBB installations.

The development team has said that they will never charge for it. phpBB is still free, why do you think SMF will ever cost any money?
The biggest downside to SMF right now would be lack of themes. There are loads of mods and mod writers, but apparently theme designers are few and far between. This of course isn't a problem for me, since I design my own themes  .
Adding mods manually isn't difficult... when you compare them to the package manager, yeah, they are a bit harder. But most of the time it's just a simple copy/paste of a few chunks of code in a few different files.

SMF is great IMHO!
I use it in my site because it integrates well with joomla(CMS). But I had never heard anything about it's license(because I never bothered to read it) I think i better check it out!
RMWEBS: You dont have to use the original theam because there are many avaliable for free use.

What I don't like:
1. How it looks. Small fonts and a weird layout. That's also because most SMF users don't bother make those boards look different from the stock theme.
2. the profile ... some options are not placed by default and many new members don't know how to activate them
The script is not bad, but the users, most of them just don't know how to work it to its best.
