Yes, but... by having it near the top, anyone just stumbling by will first be struck by "ah great... an active community at last". That might grab their attention, and they'll look further to see what else there is... at least, that's my take on it. I believe John Scott at v7n was a proponent of this method.

The way in which he started v7n forum (internet market forum previously?) was pretty amazing. He and his team started from 0 and created a sizable webmaster community in such a short time. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Content, fast replies, motivation always helps.
Always try to make lots of topics, and then reply to those topics as often and with as much detail as possible. This way it's as easy as possible for users to reply again. _________________ www.nerdcouncil.com - Forums are finally done!!! |

| I say put general chat on top of introduction board, because most visitors don't normally go view the introductions, only those very active members do. |

I guess I should arrange the order of forums here. There aren't that many posts in Site News. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Regards | True, you don't want to be spending time at webmaster forum where members don't even know what "seo" is. You also expect that forum admin and moderators to have some knowledge. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Content: unique articles and tutorials ...
And features: quick reply, easy to read text, topic description, to be able to see the threads you posted in .. many others.
And a nice community. hate it when I see people who are mean to the others. _________________ Webmaster Tips & Tricks - Music forums - Movie forums |

Some kind of SEO mod should be installed in my opinion. If you're not getting any traffic from search engines, then you can't really succeed.

im not really in it for money in fact my most loved forum doesnt make a penny as i try to keep adds down but may consider it in order to buy more toys for the site
friendly i think is very key. users need to feel good about posting their thoughst and ideas and admin need to remember they have nothing without active posters. |

I think an arcade is a nice feature, but not definetly needed. A lot of my members said they would enjoy the forum more if there was an arcade to play games in... _________________ http://www.myreseller.be
