How difficult is it to create flatten out URL strings using ASP? Does ASP provide any mechanism so that you can easily create flatten out URL strings?

What do you mean by 'flatten out'?

Do you mean parse? Do you mean unescape?

Example:

http://www.webpublishingforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=3632#3632

This is not a flattened out URL string.

http://www.webpublishingforum.com/about453.html

This a flattened out URL string. As you can see, there is no "?" or "=".

I would refer to this as an SEF URL (search engine friendly). Within asp I don't know of anyway to do it without installed server components

In many cases, you kind of have to have to have a mechanism built into your application to create search engine friendly descriptive URL strings. News site which is a part of this portal creates search engine friendly descriptive URL strings:

http://www.webpublishingforum.com/top/business/
http://www.webpublishingforum.com/top/business/companies/
http://www.webpublishingforum.com/top/business/companies/apple/
http://www.webpublishingforum.com/top/business/companies/apple/blog/

This is not a result of minor modification. The application is written to create these URL strings.

This is done using PHP, but I was just trying to explain how search engine friendly URL strings are created in general.

I knew it could be done in php using mod rewrite, but I don't think the same capabilities are there in ASP
