There are number of paid services targeting webmasters, and search directory submission service is one of them. What's your take on the service? Is there any company providing this service that you can recommend?

This is something that I think is useful, especially for a brand NEW site. It is a quick and easy way to gain a bunch of links. Sure they might not be ranked that high in the SEs but they are links all the same. You can also bet that at least 25% of them will be around for the long haul while the others will simply disappear when the people running them realize that a directory is a lot of work.

I do think that this is useful as well. In fact, once I clear up one issue (totally unrelated to this), I will try out one of search directory submission services.

Reason 1: This is awfully cumbersome and time consuming.

Reason 2: Tasks are clearly defined, and there is no difference between my submitting sites and someone else's submitting sites. If this is something like posting service or blogging service, there can a huge difference between my posting in my forums and blogging and someone else's doing. Depending on how I want to create my sties, I may not want to use posting service or blogging services. This is not the case for search directory submission service.

When you do get around to hiring a directory submission service then I recommend http://www.directorysubmission.net/

I have used them a bunch and they are very organized and fast.

... they have a couple of different services:

Basic Directory Submission [ $0.25 / directory ]
Normal Directory Submission [ $0.35 / directory ]
Multiple Url Directory Submission [ $0.45 / directory ]
Comprehensive Directory Submission [ $1.45 / directory ]

Which one did you use? Which one do you recommend? Also do they offer packaged services?

Well I only use them for a starting forum so I used either hte basic or normal service. I usually get the most links.

What kind of packaged services are you looking for?

If you are looking for a custom package I would recommend contacting them. They are easy to get along with.

As I briefly looked around search directory submission services, they offer services like $50 package, $100 package, 100 submission package and 200 submission package. Picking up a package makes my life easier.

So ..., did you just pick Basic or Normal and decide how many submissions you want them to make?

I have used both in the past. However lately I have only used the basic so that I can get a bunch of links for a new site.

I normally get the max of site which was 175 the last time I looked. They have probably added more to their list since then.
