I just started making mini sites, kind of as a test to see if I can make some easy money. You can see what I'm talking about by clicking here.

I have been thinking a lot about this myself. I've seen a lot of those kind of sites and am curious as to how successful they are. Anyone kind enough to share their experiences with this?

How do you host? Do you run a decided server? Do you run it at home or at your office? Also what kind of hosting plans do you offer? Would you like to share these information with us?

Well here's another experiment of mine that we are starting to launch. What do you think of the idea?

Well, it's all summarized in the page, and there's a demo of how it works, but the long & short of it is this:

Let's say somebody starts a small business. They need to keep overheads low on startup, and have neither the time nor knowledge to develop a website for their business.

Even if they plan to tackle a big site later, we all know as experienced webmasters that they will still require a good year at least with much effort in order to establish a web presence. (lack of this knowledge probably could explain why most websites fail - because people give up on them, having expected immediate results)
So with Fivers they could develop a small intermediate site for their business, and start gaining from our main site & directory's traffic, as well as our SE while they're preparing for their main site.

For a small starting-up business it's far cheaper to lay out five pounds a month than over a thousand in one go at the beginning to pay somebody else, and they're automatically getting promoted, whih later equates to an established referral for their main site once launched, kinda like a legal portal, as well as to act as an internet business card for the start.

Do you think this might take off at all? What would be the best way of advertising on a low budget?

Yahoo offers Yahoo stores. MySpace offers you space to create your own web presence. Blog is kind of like that. Many free hosting plans offer something very similar. To respond skeptically, I wonder what this particular services offers. I wonder why anyone wants to use this services instead of Yahoo store, eBay store, MySpace or Blog.

So why would anyone choose any of the others? By this argument, they shouldn't choose anything at all then?
eg If I was presenting Yahoo store, one could argue "Why wouldn't they rather use eBay store..." and vice-versa. If alternatives should be enough of a deterrant, then we shouldn't even have any other forums for example.

The thing that I think will set us apart is that we're targetting the UK, and not catering for the entire world. So while UK businesses might make use of other free methods, those methods aren't going to equate to any real targetted business for them, and their free site will just sit there as a pretty face for years. Don't you think?

I'm sceptical of free services because I don't see how they would go through any effort to actually actively promote you at all for nothing!
