Some of my forums are both my hobby and business. I felt a bit hesitant to make my hobby into business initially, but I'd certainly prefer that to do something I'm not too crazy about just to make living.

My goal is to reach over 1,000 quality posts per month within a reasonable amount of time.

That sounds pretty ambitious to me at least. I have five forums and I spend a fair amount of time developing all, but none of my forums has gotten there yet. I'll hopefully start seeing more activities in my forums soon.

I'd say the short term goal would be to have around 100 members, with maybe 50 active on the forums. So many people registser and then leave after a post, or not even posting at all. So 50 sounds like a pretty legit number.

Ambitious, yes. But isn't that why we develop forums? To create communities for people to network on?

It can be a goal, but not the goal. There are many goals, IMO. However, no matter what your goal is, you need to manage to create an active and vibrant community; otherwise, chances are you won't be able to reach your goal.

I think 10 extra members - active members, that is! Would be nice to get a few people by word of mouth - that would be quite encouraging!

50,000 posts is my next goal, on almost 30,000 and am trying to increase the member numbers to help get there, we will see.

10 active members, which doesn't sound like a lot but would bring enough activity to keep things trotting along.
