If you develop business web site then white clean background and site is a must. If you are developing site to make money from I find that dark backgrounds get you better ctr. It really depends about what subject the site is _________________ Soccer Forum

Really? How many samples do you have? More specifically, how many sites of yours have dark background and how many sites of yours have light background color? _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

I have couple of sites of dark background that were previously light or totally white background. And ctr is twice as high if not more than earlier.....People seems to don't realize that there is an ad on dark background. They see it earlier on white I think. Btw I had exactly the same layout on one site which is now dark and believe me ctr is much much higher and I am much much happier _________________ Soccer Forum

I'd better start changing background colors to dark colors ... _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

I like white on the text but a different color behind it.
Like... color x background, white div, black text in the white div. _________________ www.nerdcouncil.com - Forums are finally done!!! |

For me a white backgound means I didn't have the time to work something out. This is the first thing I change. Even if it's a very light grey, I don't want to have only white there. _________________ Webmaster Tips & Tricks - Music forums - Movie forums |

I agree for the most part, some people find the contrast between white and black hard on the eyes.
However for some designs, like this forum, white works out to be a good BG and not an after thought that you can see on so many other sites. _________________ Webmaster Blog | Free forums | Free Hit Counter |

I usually use a slightly off-white colour. Almost white, but not white. Why?
Because I find a white background can be harsh on the eyes, particularly for CRT monitors. |

I also recommend white backgrounds for at least the content section of the website
but I may wrap that in something else _________________ get help with emarketing at the email marketing forum

white can work on a nice minimilistic site, really depends on the look you want. I do prefer to use something a little off from white if i'm going that way tho, not sure why, just shows a little more thought and creativity i spose.
