US needs to start cutting defense budget, and they need to fundamentally change the way in which they approach international affairs. That's how US should persuade other countries to not go back to Cold War era and start producing so many weapons again. There is no reason why the same mistake should be repeated.
People's mindset needs to change as well. Military action needs to be the last resort, and that cannot happen unless it's absolutely necessary. It seems that too many people believe that military action has to occur first and foremost.

but the other side of the medal is ... cold war is always good for progress ... just look at what we achieved in those years  At the end it all comes to how smart are people. Will they use the weapons or not....

I sure don't like him, and I think he's kind of messed up in the head, and even a bit power-hungry, but there are more things at the present time that we should worry about.

Putin is not messed up in the head hehe ... He is very smart and he is working on Russia to become superpower again. Let's face it ... we need balance in the world and only balance we can get is with USA and Russia. I can't believe how much Russia improved in last 5 years.

I never said he wasn't smart. You can be smart and messed up in the head at the same time. In fact, if you are an extreme of one, you probably have the other.
Anyway, I see what you mean, but does the world really need another Cold War? I like the thought of not getting nuked any time soon.

I am sure no one will be nuked since balance of power will assure that. I hope that because of second cold war another super thing like internet will be invented We all know that internet started as military project hehe.

It's true that many defense projects created number of interesting and useful technologies such as the internet, but it's a bit silly to suggest to pour money into defense because of that. It's also not a valid reason why there should be tensions between various countries. No offense, but it's a rather silly argument.

There are no tensions at all ! It is just that there has to be balance of powers...so no big war is possible ! and you get extra big boost in technology because of that. It is all politics .... there will be no war between usa and russia ever And you must not think that money is spent in military. That money is spent for technology which in this case is military technology hehe. But after weapons are developed there is imediate transfer of those technologies into our simple real lives..... I hope i made it clear now  I don't want any war |

EU where I live hehe will never be superpower because we can't stand eachother....that is fact. and I really don't want to have army together with other EU countries.....

I don't think the EU countries can stand anyone, yet they're allies with... almost everyone ???
Anyway, you're right, the EU won't have any superpowers. I give them ten years before they ban the right to bear arms.
