When I was making a decission on forum software for my soccer forum I took a look at this software. After testing it on my home server for a week I came to conclusion it is not good for me. It looks good and it is quite fast but still kind of buggy and overall experience is not as good as with other forum scripts. The main thing I miss with this package is feeling of stability. It just doesn't impress me. At the end I decided for punbb which I think is the best forum software availible today.

I haven't found anything wrong with it, but there just isn't enough popularity on it for many decent mods to be made.

Yes there is nothing wrong but when working with it I just didn't feel it. It is totally my subjective opinion.

Whenever I use an open source/free software, I check its popularity. If it's very popular, then I feel comfortable using it. If not, I hesitate to use.

I agree if it is popular then sure it is worth trying. Another "rule" of software is : You have to make something out of it in 10 minutes after installing otherwise it is useless Wink .... I mean if software which is really a tool isn't working something for you and you are still finding out what it is for you better throw it to the Bin

I disagree completely. If this were the case, there would be no uniqueness in the forum world today. If you expect to install your forums and have the set up and ready for the public in 10 minutes, then you should not expect them to be very successful Wink

Building a successful forum takes much longer than 10 minutes.

Now...if you're just referring to installation time...I don't know of any forum which takes longer than 10 minutes to install (assuming you know the proper procedure)

MyBB is a great piece of software...I'd say that among the open source options out there, it is among the best - definitely in the top 5.

Sorry maybe I missed the point here ... I was talking for software in general where really if it don't do anything useful in 10 minutes it is useless and you can sure find one that will do what you want in shorter time Wink

As for MyBB I think it has potential but there are many broken things out of the box ... calendar is one example !
