Google offers number of search tools, and one of them is Google Alerts. Have you used it before? If so, what did you think about it? Did you like it?

I use it, and I get alerts to my email daily. It's alright, it has a lot of unrelated alerts but it has helped me a few times so far to get the latest on certain topics.

I like the alerts, i get daily alerts on several topics each for a different reason, I get alerts for each of my websites along with alerts related to topic in my forum to give me ideas for new threads.

What's wrong with MSN alert that you get with MSN IM? Is there any difference? Is there any reason why one should consider using Google Alert?

Oh, ok.
If I have 10 or more people listed in my IM, then ... it really distracts me, but I only have two people listed and they only IM me occasionally, so ... IM and its alert work for me ...
