if you see little work by the admin then it could be that the activity on the forum only comes from post exchanges the admin is doing.
Don't think that spending money to advertise a forum in the beginning is a good idea.
You could spend a lot with eg AdWords, but as long as you don't have much (or quality) content those visitors won't stay anyway.
SEO is also something that you won't see in the first weeks of a new community.
Could take some time before a site/forum gets indexed by the search engines.
So if a forum really gets active at an early stage is probably a combination of a great niche and the work the admin is doing behind the scenes. |

Sometimes I get the impression that a forum takes off without even the admin doing that much work. Finding the right niche is a HUGE part of the equation I think...

I have been setting up quite a few forums, but I have to tell you. I still haven't found the magic formula if there is one ... _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

No, nor me... I've had reasonable success through hard work, but I've never had a forum go 'out of control'.

Maybe I should pray. Maybe I should go to a template or some place everyday. Maybe that's the missing key. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Running a forum is a lot harder then most people think.
And one of the biggest problems is that there are getting so many forums lately.
So you've got a lot of competition to beat. |

I personally don't think that competitions matter. More specifically, most people just set up forum software, and they don't do anything else. In other words, they aren't taking potential members away from you. It's a question of how you create your forum; it's not a question of how you capture forum members who might register and post in other forums. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

You've obvious got websites on the brain too much... I think you meant 'temple' not 'template'. _________________ Business Forums - Sport Forums - Travel Forums |

I remember reading a post about a person trying to kick-start his forum.
He promised a nintendo Wii to the person who makes the most posts until the console came out...
I think he got hundreds of members and thousands of posts within a day... _________________ http://www.myreseller.be

I think its attracting a sizeable portion of loyal members and a good atmostphere that makes a good forum...theres no method to it...Certainly the admins can set the tone though _________________ Shooru - Pop Culture, Music and Movie Forum

That's a good point... that's pretty cheap advertising really. Clever. _________________ Business Forums - Sport Forums - Travel Forums |

I don't really put a lot of rewards up on my forums, I prefer to just use features. When I added a Radio where only members could listen, I gained quite a few currently active members. |
