How important is acquire links pointing to your forum? Is it necessary? Is it totally meaningless? _________________ Online Education |

How very insightful
Yes links are important and let me expand on what our fine colleague is elluding to.
Yes it is important but for more reasons than stated. First it helps SEO simply because the more links that point to your site the more important your site is in the eyes of the SEs. That said, it is also important to have high quality natural links, or at least natural looking. If all your links come from link farms, sigs and directories it is not going to help your SERPs, and may even hurt them.
As far as PR goes....WHO CAREs....No REAL person as in non-webmaster is going to care how big the green bar is. They are not going to register and start posting because the green bar is big, but the green bar is likely to GET big if you have a really good site that people want to visit.
Also traffic, links bring traffic, traffic brings members, members bring content and content bring SEs. Oh yeah and members bring $$
If you are going to start a linking campaign you should think more about asking your friends to write a blurb in their blog, or add you to their blog roll. Write some articles that people can easily post other places. Write some GOOD content and start some controversial threads that people will want to link to etc... _________________ Webmaster Blog | Free forums | Free Hit Counter |

Definitely. For one, it increases your PR. Secondly, getting your forum "out there" in a market with people who are interested in your forum gets new members. I probably join most forums by seeing a link on another website. _________________ www.nerdcouncil.com - Forums are finally done!!! |

It is very important. I can do this by having unique content for instance and little by little people willl link to it. It's a tedious work, but I think the outcome is too good to be ignored _________________ Webmaster Tips & Tricks - Music forums - Movie forums |

Actually, as soon as I find a forum with a topic I'm interested in and has a high PR, it's a must to sign up . So PR probably does have an effect, on webmaster forums atleast. Accuring links will also get you traffic which equals signing up which equals +posts . Oh! Which in turn equals big board which in turn equals $$$ . _________________ Gunbound Aimbot |
