Now I know it is extremely hard to get a forum started but I feel that it should be further along than it is currently.

So far I've developed links, added it to my sigs on other forums, and I got involved in post exchanges.

But still no progress, just members involved in the post exchange with me.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

It'll be like that for some time. It's pretty normal for your forum to have 5k - 10k posts, yet you don't have any member who signs up and post in your forum voluntarily. How many posts does your forum have?

What's the URL? Maybe we can offer some constructive critisism.

Yes getting a community started IS hard but if you can get a group of friends to help out by posting on the forums you will start to grow quicker than you think!

Pay someone to post and post yourself under different usernames. Are you getting any SE visitors and oh some good competition would be nice offering some CDs for every user that reaches 500 posts. I did that on my military forum at http://www.militarytalk.net and we will see how it goes !

This is a niche topic so it should have potential. I'd suggest you find as many niche directories as you possibly can for this subject, and submit your URL to them all. If you think that's already done, then it probably isn't... there's probably loads more out there. Smile

I think my site for writers really struggled until I had 1000 members. Lots of the members weren't even there for the forums (I offered other tools) so getting people to post was like pulling teeth.

Once I hit 1000, signups seemed to happen almost effortlessly. I believe that the activity attracts more activity. Because of this, it's important to make 5 to 20 posts on your own forum each day. I find that difficult, but I am willing to make a sock puppet or two if the situation is dire, and that helps.

I do not believe in paid posting. I tried Forum Elves and Forum Launch, and neither impressed me at all. I also tried post exchanges with a couple of people. I took the time to give them some good posts, and in return one of them plagarized posts from another forum, and the other posted a bunch of stupid 1-liners. I hated that, it totally soured me on the experience.

What's postingpays.com? Is it another post exchange service? Posting service? What is it really?
