How to keep members ?
What I do is that if I see someone registering at forums and not post at all or for a while I send him E-mail personaly saying how he is welcome and all. I got couple of them back that way.
What are your ways of keeping members ? _________________ Soccer Forum

That's a tough question. As a user, I'd say that having a good content, having many discussions going on. That's what brings me back to forums in the end. Having a good, fun atmosphere is also important. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

I think you must have some topics that are used just for ranting. Politics, sports, etc... are very good to make people a little angry and will check out what a person have to say after they ranted about their previous post _________________ Soccer Forum

Sports chat can be a good one. You can have a heated discussion about how Wayne Rooney won't make World Cup and how English people are having some delusion, yet it is an innocent discussion after all.
I really think that you should only have one general chat forum/category though. Too many forums have too many general chat forums/categories while their main focuses are different subjects like Regional, SEO, Health, Business, etc. Once you spread out so thin meaninglessly, you're all over ... _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

I understand you completely, I have the same problems. I try to keep intense discussions with different opinions and make other members so into a debate that they just decide to stay (other admins have won my membership by using similar methods).
You have to treat each member's post as their last, so make sure it's as easy to reply to as possible. _________________ www.nerdcouncil.com - Forums are finally done!!! |

it's so hard, seems to go through phases, right now it's fairly busy, some weeks it's nearly dead. I think it's important, as people have said, to keep everything active and with lots of different viewpoints, but it can be quite challenging.

I mentioned this in some other thread, but creating fun and pleasant atmosphere is so important. Once you create unpleasant atmosphere, it's all over. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

My problem was always the come, confess and leave scenario, so i have added other forums, entertainment, free chat, dream diary and so forth, plus contests and all sorts to make the place feel far more like a community and allow people to come for the confessions and stay for family

Let's say that I want to create a fun and pleasant atmosphere here. Do you have any specific suggestion? _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

one thing we added a while back that's been a huge success was a custom mod for trophies, some are automated like top poster today, this week, this month, ever etc. some are awarded by me, best bum, best singer (we have a rate my voice section) and so on. Competition really seems to bring people together. Maybe something like that here (perhaps minus best bum).

Making regular posters moderators is a good way of keeping them as regular members, I feel. _________________ Business Forums - Sport Forums - Travel Forums |

The best thing is to scout among members I agree. I got couple of really good ones... they are moderating all those spammers and advertisers hehe because they don't like it. Not to say that one of them is posting 60 times/day on the forum ! _________________ Soccer Forum
