Is this really a feature that is needed in forum or not so much. Punbb I use do not come with PM by default but it has email sender ... so I click on user and send him email through punbb....Is this the same or is PM feature that is easier and more user friendly ?
What are your thoughts ? _________________ Soccer Forum

It's a very important feature, IMO. It can be a bit intrusive to send so many emails, so PM becomes a valuable tool. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

It's a tricky one. Getting negative reputation score can make some members unhappy. You don't want to make any member unhappy ... _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Exactly what I was thinking about ... but on the other side if member gets positive feedback he will post more and with more quality !
People don't get negative feedback for no reason usually _________________ Soccer Forum

I don't know about that. Example. If I say "England will never win this World Cup", I'm pretty sure that my reputation will go minus within a relatively short period time ... _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

I would definitely rather PMs. Now that I think of it, I'm not that sure why, but to have a PM folder for every forum is a lot more organized and it's a little easier on you if you're working with the member (like in a sale). _________________ www.nerdcouncil.com - Forums are finally done!!! |

I think it's important, it's certainly well used, my forum currently has over 22,500 posts and has seen almost 1,500 PMs.

IMO it is one of teh most important for a community. For example, if someone starts a discussion with a member that goes off-topic, or that they would like to continue in private you want to give them the ability to do so on your site. For two reasons, the member does not have to give out any personal information to the stranger and they will have to keep coming back to your site to communicate. _________________ Webmaster Blog | Free forums | Free Hit Counter |

I think it's important. I cannot imagine a forum script without it. A lot of my communication with the mods and the members is done with this. Of course some spammers can also take advantage of this, but it's a good feature, so I don't want to live without it. _________________ Webmaster Tips & Tricks - Music forums - Movie forums |

I agree 100%
Sometimes it is easier to check your PMs on a site than it is to check your email. And like I have said before it keeps the people on your forums......
The longer and more often they come back the more of a chance that you have to make money off of them _________________ Webmaster Blog | Free forums | Free Hit Counter |

I love Private Messaging on forums, especially IPB. The IPB assistant instantly notifies a person when they reload the page next, so you can get ahold of them fast... _________________ Entrepreneur Talk - Business Forum & Community |

Private messages help to avoid "thread conversations" between two people, so they're good in my books. _________________ Nutty Chipmunk Productions

Good point, Desilvio. Thread conversations can really expose an ugly side of a forum. No one wants to see a personal conversation between two people. _________________ Entrepreneur Talk - Business Forum & Community |
