It depends on the topic of the forum and where your members are from on whether you can make a lot of money or not. I would imagine you would make more from a webmaster forum compared to a games forum with the same traffic. I have a games forum with 25k+ members and it does not bring in a lot of cash with adsense. cpm banners are not worth the effort because of the low cpm. Affiliate programs have proved to give very little. Private advertising is hard to come by. This forum does have a significant amount of non US traffic though (40%).
