When do you think it is a good idea to start using Child of.. Boards?
Like the Sub-forums you see on some sites. _________________ http://www.LucnetSolutions.com - World Wide Hosting Solutions |

When a category has number of threads and active discussions are taking place, you can probably create its sub-forum. I don't think that it'll work well otherwise. IMO, forum should create a new category when the time is right; you can't create 10 different categories, when forum is empty. You can't really add a new category, when existing categories are very quiet. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

When you start seeing lots of threads about the same thing in one forum
OR...
You have too many categories on the main page and you're being told it makes the forum look empty. _________________ |

I never really used them myself. I really didn't like them, but if it helps the forum I would. For now I plan on not having them. _________________ http://www.LucnetSolutions.com - World Wide Hosting Solutions |

But you wouldn't like if forum had 30 categories listed vertically, would you? _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Exactly why I am not sueing it at the moment. I don't have that many. I just merged a few forums that where small to make one look bigger.
Maybe in the future I understand why it would be a must. _________________ http://www.LucnetSolutions.com - World Wide Hosting Solutions |

I personally never created any sub-forum in the past primarily because I never grew any forum to that level. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

When the forum is on topic, but breaching on the edge of creating its own catagory. _________________ http://whichbb.com/forum |

Do so wisely. If you have a programming forum, make seperate category for each major language, but if you have a general computer forum, you can have a category for programming and if that category has lots of posts and gets more every day, make subcategories dividing the languages. _________________ www.nerdcouncil.com - Forums are finally done!!! |

I guess that the following is another way to look at this. If a new category or forum will end up staying empty or close to empty, then you should never do it. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Maybe you would like to tell us why?
Many forums use them, it beats having to scroll down a long page just to get to what forum you want. _________________ |

And what is the difference ... I have to scroll down subcategories in forum too ... Oh yes and I have the right to hate subs and I don't mind scrolling down. You can always use collapse to hide some forums or something _________________ Soccer Forum

I have only 1 forum with this hack installed. I would install it when I would really have too many categories and they could be put in sub categories. It's a huge hack to install, so I;m not that keen on working on it _________________ Webmaster Tips & Tricks - Music forums - Movie forums |
