It seems that many members have a lot to say about various BBS (Bulletin Board System(software)), so I'm creating number of threads to discuss the topic in more detail. Here's a thread to discussion about SMF negatives. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

Well why I don't use SMF .... because of ther license !
If you make a mod for SMF and owners decide that smf goes paid then you lose your mod and they can use it in their commercial product without any obligation to you _________________ Soccer Forum

I love SMF but I do feel that it is far too complicated to add mods when you are using a skin other than the default.
Also, I would love to see more documentation on the how-to's for the script.. there never seems to be clear how-to instructions on the stuff that I'm trying to figure out. |

I don't know much about SMF's technical details, but my feeling is that SMF is not popular enough, i.e, it doesn't have a strong community support. This concerns me. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

SMF forums are quite popular. Also there are so many skins for SMF which you can download on their forums. But like I said I don't like their license. I think it is not right approach _________________ Soccer Forum

| I'm not sure what you are referring to, iatbm, but I have heard the main 'powers-that-be' emphatically say (in an interview) that they will NEVER charge for a license to use their script. I'm willing to take my chances and trust that they are telling the truth.. especially with phpBB being the only serious viable free option, IMO. |

I have been using SMF for about a year and I am pleased with them.

You have think about what will happen if they didn't have it. If they go cemmercial, they could get sewed by everybody and there mother for money for scripts they developed.
I think it is a smart more and they have it in the open so it is a choice for you to make. _________________ http://www.LucnetSolutions.com - World Wide Hosting Solutions |

I don't think it's "smooth" enough - the navigation, the way things are laid out and worded etc. - I've never found it appeling or consistent. _________________ |

I completely agree. I also find it a little difficult to get support in advanced problems. _________________ www.nerdcouncil.com - Forums are finally done!!! |

| LucnetSolutions wrote: | | Why you ask? | Because that's one of mods that can make a big improvement.in speed. Default Apache 1.x does not have the mod installed, BUT if you run a server at some hosting company, then you typically have that. Default Apache 2.x has the mod installed, so if it's not enabled, then all you have to do is it to enable it. _________________ Travel News Online College Degree |

The license...they WILL make SMF premium at some stage, you can guarantee it.
I also hate its layout...it looks so ugly. _________________ http://whichbb.com/forum |
