Yeah, I agree there. If nothing else, Google really stands out when it comes to speed. Google has been toying with the idea of making it kind of like portal, but I'm not in favor of that kind of change. Once we all have 100M+ bandwidth, I think it can work well, but as of today, bandwidth or processor speed doesn't allow us to use a complex interface comfortably.

| I think the best thing about google is its simple interface, look at yahoo's homepage, lots of differant kind of information, and google's homepage only got a search textbox and few links around it. |

Yahoo search actually has a very clean interface. The thing is that Yahoo has been marketed as a portal, while Google has been marketed as a search engine. Yahoo has been having hard time offering a simple and clean interface for this reason.

No way ... there is no "friendly" corporation. There are many corporations who effectively market their names to create the impression that they are "friendly" though. "Do no evil" is just a marketing slogan (which so many people buy into ...).

maybe they do have a hidden agenda. Maybe it's just to make a heck of a lot of money. Either way, if they give me free tools and make it easy to use them, I'm happy to surrender!

We're paying for those tools because they're all essentially paid by ads. It's just that it's a clever mechanism so that we feel like Google is providing free services. You can say the same thing about TV and radio, but they're aren't exactly educational or making this world a better place, are they?
I'm getting fooled by them ...

I don't mind the ads. Heck, you can get firefox extensions to remove them if you really don't like them
Sometimes they're very useful. And hey, they make the forum and most others free as well!
