|

| My father brought a laptop with integrated wireless connection, and it came with a modem router. Apparently it has to be connected to the modem on the main computer. Is this true? Well, he tried doing that, but it didn't work as he was just trying it out without Instructions. Considering this is our first time with this piece of technology, I would be grateful to hear back, on experiences on setting up a modem router. Cons? Advantages? What's the best way to set it up? This is a modem router, connecting to a laptop which has already got wireless integrated. So, if a laptop has wireless integrated, does that mean it has the software and capabilities for it, or something completely different? Anyone got one of these? |

Just tried this out, downstairs. We connected the yellow cable straight to the laptop via the phone line. It worked, as we had been confirming the wrong cable. Well after the Netgear modem router was successful in establishing a connection, and we set up our secure password, we were able to get online access.
Thing is, now we can't get the network to connect online away from the computer. It only works when the yellow cable is connected. Plus, I noticed that there were two networks, when we were online. There was the Local Network which was giving us online access, and the Netgear (which is our modem) and that was switched off, although once I clicked on properties, the laptop computer was the first icon, than it connected to Netroute, and then to Internet. |

I don't know a great deal about this but I would say is make sure your connection is protected. It's common if you're in a built up area to be able to access multiple connections simply because people don't take basic precautions. _________________ Business Forums - Sport Forums - Travel Forums |

My setup is somewhat different. I subscribe to DSL, which is connected to my DSL modem. The DSL modem is then connected by an Ethernet cable to a Netgear Wireless Router. My 2 laptops, Nintendo Wii, PDA and wireless MP3 player connect to the router wirelessly and I have 3 desktop computers that all have wired connection to the router.
Setup was extremely easy and I have not had any problems with my setup in 3 and half years of use.
I'm getting deja vu here _________________ http://www.voiceyourconcerns.co.uk - Debate controversial topics and let others know your views. |

| Lol, we still haven't fixed it yet. But now, we know how it works. Someone is coming round tomorrow, to have a look at it and show us how it's done. |

| Apparently no software was needed to install the modem router. Wireless now works, and a manual configuration was made on the desktop for, it to function. |
